Summer 2007
With the Met Office declaring June 2007 as the wettest June since records began and with more rain to follow, it is no surprise that moisture levels are through the roof. Excessive amounts of rain, along with intermittent sunny days and high levels of humidity, have aggravated condensation and damp levels in homes across the country.
With tens of thousands of people across the country being evacuated from their homes due to floods in June and July, water damage and damp seem to have escalated into an epidemic.
Once structural damage has been evaluated in flood damaged homes and cellars, dehumidifiers can be used to dry out affected areas in preparation for cosmetic repairs.
In less extreme situations, dehumidifiers can be used to protect the home, preventing damage such as mould, damp and interstitial condensation, which also aggravates asthma and arthritis.
Traditionally, dehumidifiers can be used in the summer to alleviate hay fever, however, this year we are experiencing a lower than average pollen count, making some people happy with the current weather conditions!
According to the Met Office, there are signs of change in the weather for August, with most regions experiencing some periods with above average temperatures. Above average precipitation is likely to continue through July and at the beginning of August, with drier than average conditions expecting at the end of August to September. The combination of rain and above average temperatures would make now a good time to protect your health and home and investing in a dehumidifier.
