Let's face it; cleaning our homes is never something we want to do. Most of us don't know where to begin when it comes to the annual spring clean, but the process doesn't have to be hard.
We've pulled together some of our favourite cleaning tips to help get a clean house as quick as possible. From baking soda to using a dehumidifier, here are our must-know cleaning tips for doing this spring.
Don't know where to begin?
You're not alone.
The first hurdle a lot of us face when it comes to a haul of cleaning is finding the motivation to do so in the first place.
Our first rule, listen to music.
Whether its the radio, a favourite CD or a favourite playlist, listening to music will not only get more excited about cleaning but will make you work faster, especially if your choice of music is something upbeat.
Our second rule, set a deadline.
It's a rookie mistake I'm sure we've all made at least once when it comes to cleaning not setting a deadline. A deadline will ensure we are more motivated to clean because we have to get it done by a particular time.
However, be careful to give yourself enough time actually to get your cleaning done. This works well with our 'listen to music' rule. Why not see if you can beat the playlist and get all your cleaning done before it finishes?
Approaching the house room-by-room is often the most productive way to deep-clean the home and is a vital rule to stick to in spring.
Using room checklists come in extremely handy for this as you can tick what you've already done and what has to be done.
We've made this as simple as possible and found printable cleaning checklists for you courtesy of Katie B over on her blog Housewife How To's that will suit anyone regardless of experience. You can see them all here.
Tip: skip items or rooms that have recently been cleaned and focus on the parts of the house that have been neglected all winter long.
Believe it or not, a dehumidifier has many more uses than just getting rid of humidity.
Ebac Dehumidifiers especially come in extra handy when it comes to cleaning because of their Air Purification Mode.
Selecting Air Purification Mode just before a big clean, or any clean for that matter will allow the dehumidifier to purify the air from airborne pollutants and dust.
This will not only minimise the risk of exposure to those with allergies but will help keep the home as healthy as possible by sucking in such impurities and trapping them in the filter at the back of the machine.
And it doesn't stop there; a dehumidifier can take cleaning to a whole new level with their often unknown ability to dry clothes.
Ebac's 3000 Series Dehumidifiers come complete with a dedicated laundry mode that is perfect for those rainy days when it's impossible to dry clothes outside as well as monitoring humidity levels to preventing condensation, damp and mould around the home.
One of the most significant parts of a spring clean is getting rid of clutter.
Spring is a better time than most to take advantage of this and get rid of items that are weighing us down and begin fresh with a more organised house.
A simple three-step approach to help organise better is sorting belonging into three categories - keep, donate or throw out.
This systematic three-step approach will not only help identify problems but determine which belongings are used a lot, not used at all or can get better use by somebody else.
Tip: spring is a great time to plan a car boot sale or to donate items to good causes and cleaning will become a lot easier when the clutter is gone.
When it comes to cleaning the internet seems to be flooded with tips, tricks and questionable hacks that have been "proven" to speed up cleaning emergencies.
However, baking soda is one that seems to pop up again and again that has been tried and tested to have an abundance of uses that are perfect for anyone and any home.
A household staple in countless homes, sodium bicarbonate, or baking soda, is a great product when it comes to cleaning because it is a mild alkali that causes dirt and grease to dissolve. Due to baking soda being a natural substance that maintains the pH balance, it's a super efficient, gentle abrasive that's helpful in all sorts of cleaning urgencies.
So just what can be done with baking soda I hear?
Well, according to Tips Bulletin baking soda has 50 uses (!!!) but here are our favourite three when it comes to sprucing up the kitchen.
Sprinkle the baking soda in the bottom of the oven, and dampen it with water. Leave overnight and scrub in the morning. Scoop out the residue with sponge or vacuum, then rinse.
Clean Your Microwave
Add some baking soda to a clean, damp sponge or something similar and gently clean the inside and outside of the microwave.
Add two tablespoons of baking soda, along with washing up liquid to the dishwater. Scrub the pots and pans and rinse.

An oldie but a goodie, keep old toothbrushes - they can come in handy!
Above all, give it a rinse in boiling water; this will get rid of germs, and use it to get into nooks and crannies that a vacuum cleaner can't.
It’s especially handy in the bathroom, for cleaning hard to reach areas around the tap or in between tiles.
Most of us are familiar with the concept of using a vacuum to remove dust and dirt from the carpet. However, to guarantee the best results and protection of a carpet, there are two crucial considerations to take note.
This will not remove all the dust and dirt; it's as simple as that. Vacuum in both directions—north and south, and east and west—to ensure every last bit of dust, dirt and anything else is picked up.
Most cleaning experts agree that vacuuming slowly is essential in ensuring that the vacuum picks up all the dirt effectively and efficiently. Shake the habit of those last minute whizz around because they don't always reap the benefit.
No matter how big or small, a little TLC is all a home needs. With our Seven Cleaning Tips To Do This Spring, there is no excuse for not welcoming the new season in with a fresh, healthier home.
