Over the past 4 years, Ebac has had an ongoing dispute with Which?

We very much agree with the principals of Which? - to look after consumers needs and ensure they purchase great products. That’s been the ethos of Ebac since our formation nearly 50 years ago. Which? continually score Ebac dehumidifiers poorly. Wanted to understand why. If we had to make changes to our products to make them better – we would.

Ebac spend thousands of hours designing our products to be the best you can buy - so we were surprised to see such low scores. But we are open to change. If we need to improve things – we will but before we do that we need to understand the real issues.

Ebac has sold over 1 million dehumidifiers and over 99% of customers say that we solve their problem by removing between 1 and 2 litres of water per day. In normal domestic conditions - this is the optimal amount of water you need to remove every day during winter. Ebac’s Smart Control has been specifically designed to do remove the optimal amount of water to eliminate damp and condensation – without removing too much and wasting energy.

Which? base the majority of their test score weighting on the absolute amount of water a dehumidifier can extract. The more water the dehumidifier takes out – the higher Which? Score a dehumidifier. This is simply the wrong methodology. In UK homes, you do not need to remove 5 litres of water from your house every day – it’s a complete waste of money.

Despite discussing this with Which? over many years and showing them evidence that proves their methodology is wrong. They refused to change their test. As a result, Ebac’s dehumidifiers are rated lower than other brands that simply waste money and energy.

To us this seems grossly unfair. Removing the correct amount of water and minimising running costs and environmental impact is being penalised in favour of encouraging huge waste.

Please watch our video below for further information. But please do not be put off by Ebac’s low Which? Scores, we have a 4.8/5 rating on Trust Pilot and have sold over 1 million dehumidifiers.

Why do Which?
Only test washing machines on severe stains?

Which? assume that if a washing machine is good at removing severe stains then it is good at everything else. We don’t agree with this logic. We know it’s completely wrong.

“Severe stains occur rarely, and most people use a stain removal product or a special stain removal programme on the machine”

By only testing severe stains, Which? are misleading consumers. Which? encourage huge waste and damage to the environment.
